Diabetic Weight Loss?

ncbound asked:

I have been a diabetic for 33 years now. I am very healthy and with no problems yet! My a1c is 6.1 and steady! Since I turned 40 my weight has become an issue. I exercise 4 times a week. My diet is great.  My doctor states that this is a side effect from taking insulin for 30+ years. I refuse to hear this. Are there any diabetics out there, 40+ who have any weight loss success stories that will help me? Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

I’m not diabetic but I have friend who is. She is 43 and weight has been an issue with her also. Her doctor put her on a new drug specifically for diabetics and weight loss. I do not know what the name of the drug is but perhaps your doctor does. It’s another injection though (every time you eat) and it may cause nausea a vomiting, but she said that those symptoms disappear with continued use. Good luck!

I’m a Type II diabetic in the 40+ range and my diabetes is diet controlled. I follow a 1500 cal. ADA diet plan. I lost about 40 pounds right after I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. At that time I was on a 1200 cal. ADA diet, but once I achieved my weight goal the dietitian increased me to 1500 cal to maintain my weight. Ask your doctor to refer you to a dietitian, it’s well worth it!
