Capsaicin puts the heat in hot peppers. It manipulates the body’s pain status by hindering pain perception, triggering the release of pain-relieving endorphins and providing analgesic action. Commercial capsaicin-containing creams such as Zostrix, Heet and Capzasin-P are used topically for arthritic and nerve pain. Creams containing .025 percent capsaicin can significantly reduce osteoarthritic pain when applied to joints four times daily. A higher concentration of .075 percent works best for peripheral nerve pain — such as that from diabetic nerve damage, HIV and pain following cancer surgery. When using topical capsaicin products, be sure to avoid touching your eyes and other sensitive areas.

Capcasin Cremes.

These are available Over The Counter at most pharmacies.

Capcasin is the chemical in jalapenos that makes them "hot". But when rubbed on the hands and feet, it deadens the pain.

But the BEST remedy is to KEEP the blood sugars in the normal range. When the blood sugars are kept in the normal range for long periods of time, the symptoms of diabetes, including the nerve pain, will reduce.

Liporic Acid, a OTC supplement found in pharmacies appears to help many diabetics with peripheral neuropathy.

But I have a question.....

Why is your mother walking around in bare feet or with just socks on?
There are plenty of soft but yet comfortable footwear available to help prevent these types of injuries, you should get your mother to a Podiatrist to have her feet examined and suggestions on what type of footwear to buy.

Yes, there are many types of natural or herbal treatments for those suffering from diabetic neuropathy or nerve damage, but you have to be very careful here to consult a naturopath or a herbologist that are reliable and have a track record of treating diabetic patients. This is very important because if not treated properly there are many complications involved also.

there are natural remedies for peripheral neuropathy, the answer is yes. B-Vitamins are natural nerve healers and, in particular, B-1, B-2, Folic Acid and B-6 have been used in natural remedies targeting neuropathy. Alpha lipoic acid is also being studied for this purpose.

Good luck. If naturals don't help try antidepressants . I took 10 tramadols a day when I had neuropathy. Plus Tegretol.
