Insulin

I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in July 2004 with an A1C of 8.1%. Since then I have been very mindful of diet, exercise, and weight loss, and my A1C’s have fluctuated within the 6%’s. I do not take any medication or insulin for control. Much to my joy, my last A1C was 5.9%! I understand this number to be technically within the non-diabetic range, and if my glucose readings over the past 90 days are any indication, I fully expect my A1C to drop even lower. Is it possible I could become a non-diabetic, or am I simply a diabetic under great control?

I’m 30 wks and have been very conscious of everything I have eaten my whole pregnancy. I eat whole grains. I don’t eat desserts or drink soda. When I’m not nauseated by them, I eat veggies and lean meat. I looked at diabetes diets online and am already eating in line with them. No one in my family has diabetes.

I work for a fast paced job that brings in lunch daily. We don’t pick what, they just bring in a bunch of something. This is the only time when I’m not in control of my diet. Nov is our busiest month, most days I work 10 hrs without breaks so I know I don’t get enough water or exercise during the day. Now I’m feeling angry towards my employer. I’m also feeling very angry with my body and even the baby! I don’t want to tell people because they already joke about how careful I am with my diet. It always annoyed me- now it seriously pisses me off. Is this a natural first reaction? Will this feeling pass? Since I already eat very healthy, do you think I’ll have to take insulin?

I experience hypoglycemia commonly. Most often it is reactive, but I also experience fasting hypoglycemia as well. It is a stand-alone condition, as I am not diabetic.

My question is this.. what can I do with my diet to make the symptoms of tiredness less crippling? As it stands.. after eating a meal, I can barely stay awake for the next two hours or so. Usually when the tiredness sets in I take a few glucose tablets to stabalize my sugar, but I know that is probably not the best to do. I think I need to change my diet so that I have less of an upward spike (and therefore less of the resulting crash). The problem is, it seems like the only thing I crave is carbohydrates and sugars. Is my body just producing a lot of insulin to make up for the carbs and sugars? What are the best foods to choose? Any help would be great.
